My story
Welcome to this space!! My name is Montserrat Salamanca: mother, professional, Neurodivergent and person with disability. My path did not begin with theory, but from lived experience, listening, and connection.
I am a Deaf professional working from a neuroaffirmative perspective. My way of living this world has been deeply shaped by experiencing communication, accessibility, and difference from a personal standpoint.
This not only defines who I am, but also how I support others: through empathy, respect, and the conviction that all forms of communication are valid.
Throughout my professional journey, I have focused on supporting families and educational environments of neurodivergent individuals, particularly Deaf and Autistic people.
My work is not focused in "correction" or "normalization", but in understanding — understanding the person, understanding their way of communicating, and understanding the environment that surrounds them.My son: my force
This perspective did not develop solely through academic training, but through lived experience — both professional and deeply personal.
Motherhood, especially raising my autistic child (and now preparing to welcome another baby), reinforced a belief that has guided my work: that neurodiversity and disability are not problems to be fixed, but human experiences to be understood, respected, and supported.
My work therefore follows a neuroaffirmative approach, recognizing neurodivergence as a natural and valid expression of human diversity.
Alongside my work with families, I also provide workshops and training for schools, supporting the development of more inclusive and accessible environments.Listening with the heart
is a compromise with human dignity.
For many years, I chose to keep a quiet professional profile.
Today, I embrace the importance of sharing my voice and lived experience as part of an ethical commitment to fostering more respectful, accessible, and compassionate environments for neurodivergent individuals.
“Escuchando con el corazón” ("Listening with the heart") grew from a simple yet profound belief: listening is more than hearing. It is observing, respecting, validating, and opening ourselves to different ways of being and communicating.
My work is guided by respect, ethics, and humanity.
If this perspective resonates with you, it would be my honor to support you.
